Description

A decadent and gooey dessert cake loaded with Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, chocolate, and cream cheese for a rich ‘earthquake’ effect.

Ingredients

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix (plus ingredients listed on box: eggs, oil, water)
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 1 cup milk chocolate chips
  • 1 cup peanut butter chips
  • 12–15 Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Prepare chocolate cake mix according to package directions. Pour batter into prepared pan.
  3. In a medium bowl, beat together softened cream cheese, melted butter, powdered sugar, and peanut butter until smooth.
  4. Dollop the cream cheese mixture over the cake batter in spoonfuls. Do not spread — leave uneven for the ‘earthquake’ effect.
  5. Sprinkle chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, and chopped Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups evenly over the top.
  6. Bake for 40–45 minutes, until the edges are set but the center remains gooey.
  7. Cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm for a melty texture or chilled for a fudgy texture.

Notes

  • Do not overbake — the gooey center is what makes it an ‘earthquake’ cake.
  • You can use mini Reese’s or mix in Reese’s Pieces for extra crunch.
  • Serve with vanilla ice cream for the ultimate indulgence.
