Description
Juicy marinated chicken wrapped in warm pita bread with fresh vegetables and creamy tzatziki sauce, a quick and healthy Mediterranean-inspired meal.
Ingredients
- 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 4 pita breads
- 1 cup lettuce, shredded
- 1 cup cucumber, diced
- 1 cup tomatoes, diced
- 1/4 cup red onion, thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup feta cheese, crumbled
- 1/2 cup tzatziki sauce
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine olive oil, garlic, lemon juice, oregano, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Add chicken and marinate for at least 20 minutes (or up to 2 hours for best flavor).
- Heat a skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Cook chicken 5–7 minutes per side until fully cooked and golden brown.
- Remove chicken from heat, let rest for 5 minutes, then slice into strips.
- Warm pita breads in a dry skillet or oven.
- Assemble gyros by adding chicken, lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, red onion, feta, and tzatziki sauce to pita.
- Fold and serve immediately.
Notes
- For extra flavor, grill the chicken instead of pan-cooking.
- Serve with a side of Greek salad or roasted potatoes for a complete meal.
