Description
Mediterranean Chicken Gyros are a quick, healthy, and flavor-packed meal featuring marinated chicken, fresh veggies, and creamy tzatziki sauce wrapped in warm pita bread — perfect for lunch or a light dinner.
Ingredients
- 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts, sliced into strips
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 4 pita or flatbreads
- 1 cup cucumber, diced
- 1 cup tomato, diced
- 1/2 small red onion, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup crumbled feta cheese
- 1 cup tzatziki sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- Fresh parsley or dill, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, oregano, paprika, salt, and pepper. Add chicken strips and toss to coat. Marinate for at least 15 minutes (or up to 2 hours for best flavor).
- Heat a skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Cook the marinated chicken for 6–8 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and fully cooked.
- Warm pita bread in a dry skillet or microwave for a few seconds until soft and pliable.
- Assemble the gyros by spreading tzatziki sauce over each pita. Add chicken, tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, and feta cheese.
- Sprinkle with fresh parsley or dill and fold the pita to enclose the filling.
- Serve immediately with extra tzatziki on the side.
Notes
- For a lighter version, use Greek yogurt in place of tzatziki or serve the filling over lettuce for a gyro bowl.
- Marinate the chicken overnight for deeper flavor.
- Try adding olives or roasted red peppers for a more authentic Mediterranean touch.
- Use whole wheat pita or low-carb wraps for a healthier option.
