Description

Classic butter cookies are rich, crisp, and buttery treats that melt in your mouth — perfect for holidays or any time you crave a simple, delicious cookie.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (227g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups (280g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Optional: colored sugar or sprinkles for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  5. For shaped cookies, place the dough in a cookie press or roll it into 1-inch balls and flatten slightly with a fork.
  6. Decorate with sugar or sprinkles if desired.
  7. Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are just golden.
  8. Let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Ensure butter is softened but not melted for the best texture.
  • Dough can be refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 2 months.
  • For a festive touch, dip cooled cookies in melted chocolate and decorate with sprinkles.
