Description
A rich and decadent chocolate truffle cake with a moist base and a silky smooth chocolate ganache topping, perfect for special occasions or indulgent desserts.
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup hot coffee (or hot water)
- 8 oz semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- Cocoa powder or chocolate shavings (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8-inch round cake pan with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk oil, eggs, and vanilla. Stir in buttermilk.
- Gradually add wet ingredients to dry ingredients, mixing until combined.
- Stir in hot coffee until batter is smooth and slightly thin.
- Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Let cake cool completely before topping.
- For ganache: Heat heavy cream in a saucepan until just simmering. Pour over chopped chocolate and butter. Let sit 2 minutes, then stir until smooth.
- Spread ganache evenly over cooled cake.
- Chill cake for at least 1 hour before serving. Garnish with cocoa powder or chocolate shavings.

- Use high-quality chocolate for the best truffle flavor.
- For extra richness, layer the cake and add ganache between layers.
- Can be made a day ahead and refrigerated.
