Description
A savory quick bread packed with cheddar cheese, garlic, and fresh herbs, perfect as a side dish or snack without the need for yeast or long rising times.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 tbsp fresh thyme (or 1 tsp dried thyme)
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 2 cloves fresh garlic, minced
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9×5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, pepper, garlic powder, parsley, thyme, and 1 cup of the cheddar cheese.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, melted butter, eggs, and minced garlic.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture and stir until just combined (do not overmix).
- Transfer batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of cheddar cheese over the top.
- Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
Notes
- For a stronger flavor, add 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese to the batter.
- This bread pairs well with soups, stews, or as a savory breakfast option.
- Store leftovers wrapped in foil at room temperature for 2 days or refrigerate for up to 5 days.
